Clara has enjoyed a long and inspired yogic journey. It probably started when the Beatles went to India. It was all so exotic and who didn’t love George Harrison playing sitar? Long before Amazon, finding information on yoga or meditation mostly involved a paperback book with photos of ancient-looking men with long hair and beards dressed in loin cloths with their legs wrapped around their neck. No instructions, just an impossible pose. As a single mom in Kansas City during the 1970’s it wasn’t easy to find a yoga teacher or pay for classes. Lilias Folan became Clara’s first teacher thanks to the PBS television series, Lilias, Yoga and You
. Eventually she was able to take classes and learn personally from local teachers as well as nationally known teachers like Max Strom, Shakta Kaur Khalsa, Judith Lasater and Tao Porchon Lynch. Her love of yoga philosophy continues to deepen as she studies with her beloved teacher, Rama Jyoti.
Meditation has also been a big part of Clara’s journey. She is a certified meditation teacher and includes meditation in her yoga classes. She began repeating mantras, or japa meditation, and now enjoys practicing metta (lovingkindness meditation) and tonglen. Both of these styles are not only ways to soothe the soul but also to send love and compassion out to all sentient beings. Clara invites you to take a deep breath and step onto the path to begin your own Yoga journey. It is life changing and a very blessed practice.
Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu May all being everywhere be happy and free, and may the thoughts, words and actions of my own life contribute in some way to the happiness and to that freedom for all.
